Hampton would be assassinated as well, on December 4, 1969, exactly 20 months after the last “Black Messiah,” Dr. So he became yet another entry in the “Black Messiah” christening sweepstakes the FBI kept awarding after their prior candidates for the title were assassinated. But, I highly suggest checking them out while you are there as well.Fred Hampton’s preternatural ability to bring potential enemies and rivals together made him dangerous to an America all too happy with the racist status quo. If you have ever loved or still love Psych, then I suggest hopping over to Peacock and checking out Psych 3: This Is Gus now! If you haven’t watched the other two films, this is still worth watching. In the nicest way possible, Peacock, please. It brings up a lot of questions that we would like to be answered. Being able to still see what is going on with them is what gives me hope that this isn’t the last time we will see another film from the Psych franchise. We also get the chance to dive into Shawn and Juliet’s ( Maggie Lawson) relationship and even see into Lassiter ( Timothy Omundson), Karen Vick ( Kirsten Nelson), Henry Spencer ( Corbin Bernsen) and many others lives. I also enjoyed that while the film focuses heavily on Gus’ story, the man has one thing on his mind and we love a man with dedication, it is so much more. It is easy for those who haven’t seen Psych (or those who haven’t seen it in a while) to get caught up in what is happening. Which, of course, leads us on an adventure of epic proportions mixed with mystery and suspense.
This is Shawn and Gus and their level of panic knows no bounds. But these aren’t ordinary people we are talking about. The idea behind the film is that Gus is about to get married and have a kid which would induce panic in all of us. The story part of Psych 3: This Is Gus is fantastic. And because of this, we get to see some of the best antics and plan building the two have ever been able to come up with. Plus, did you expect Shawn just to sit back and let his best friend almost marry someone they don’t know? Of course, he wouldn’t. The way they are able to play off of each other is movie magic. Hill and Roday Rodriquez have always worked well together. It’s all about the nostalgic blanket I was talking about. Shawn and Gus (and the rest of the cast) fall back into their roles smoothly and it feels just like old times. And we all love a warm nostalgic blanket.ĭulé Hill and James Roday Rodriquez in Psych 3: This Is Gus It feels like new laughs surrounded by a warm nostalgic blanket. We see the typical Psych jokes like Shawn ( James Roday Rodriquez) and Gus’ fake names and antics, but with enough of a difference that it doesn’t feel stale or overused.
And speaking of tieing back in, the callbacks to previous jokes and plots from the series hit the mark. It feels great on its own while also tieing back into the past stories. It picks up ongoing plotlines like Gus ( Dulé Hill) and Selene’s ( Jazmyn Simon) marriage and pregnancy while also giving us a look into what the other main characters have been up to over the years.īut Psych 3: This Is Gus doesn’t fall into the trap of being a middle movie that is only there to get the characters from point a to b. The first thing that struck me was how seamless it falls into the rest of the franchise. After a few years of not having Psych content, this is a refreshing look at the franchise. But, aside from that, the new film does rank higher for me than the others and a few of the episodes. I will kick off this review of Psych 3: This Is Gus by calling myself as a major psych-o, so any new content to me is good content. I suggest enjoying them and coming back! You can find the entire series and the films streaming on Peacock!
But let’s waste no time and dive in!ĭISCLAIMER: This review may contain spoilers for Psych 3: This Is Gus, along with other episodes and films in the Psych franchise. And hopefully, they will have more in the years to come. For those, like me, who were saddened to see the franchise come to a close, these films are the perfect amount of content to keep us entertained. Fellow Psych-os and pineapple enthusiasts, our time has come! The third film for the Psych franchise has been released on Peacock and we are here to tell you if Psych 3: This Is Gus lives up to our expectations.
